Before starting to write about the White Mountains, let’s understand a few geographical features of this place. It is the result of the geography that has made this place an adventurous spot. The White Mountains is a segment of the  Appalachian Mountains. It stretches 140 km across north-central New Hampshire and slightly into western Maine. The highest point is  Mount Washington which is at 6,288 ft. There are few picturesque notches that are carved by the mountain glaciers throughout the year. They are Crawford, Dixville, Franconia, Kinsman, and Pinkham notches.

1. Hiking the White Mountains

In the White Mountains, you will find many Hiking Trails which you would surely don’t want to miss. You will find a lot of scenic landscapes, frozen lakes, and frozen waterfalls. Always trek with full preparation because of its a mountain region and whether changes here very abruptly. Carry all the basic amenities that are necessary for trekking like trekking shoes, rain shielder, and a jacket or sweater.

If you come here go to the top of Mount Washington (drive, hike, or train) and check out the weather observatory. You will learn why it is home to the world’s worst weather. Bring down coat in your pack when you get above treeline. The world’s strongest wind was recorded here. It is not uncommon for freezing temperatures in the summer. Also check out Arethusa Fall, New Hampshire’s tallest waterfall at approximately 44 meters with a 5-mile out and back hike. Go in the winter and you can ice climb the fall.
